Concerned Lawyers in Rivers state has expressed displeasure over an attempt by National Judiciary Council to exclude the most senior judge in the Rivers state judiciary, JUSTICE JOY AKPOGUNUM to the office of chief Judge and replaced with Justice Simeon Amadi who is the 3rd in succession.
In a statement signed by the chairman of FIDA, NGOZI EHOSEIEVE, NBA Port Harcourt branch and secretary JOHN OWUBOKIRI and others expressed shock that the NJC over the weekend approved the appointment of Justice Amadi to succeed the incumbent Chief Judge, Justice IYAYI LAMINKARA who is billed to retire in May 2021
The statement pointed that such action in 2015 threw the judiciary into crisis until the present governor assumed office and cleared the appointment of the present chief judge, and wondered why the administration that write the wrong now want to repeat what happened in 2015.
