RIVERS STATE AND STATE HOUSES OF ASSEMBLY ARE LOCKED FOLLOWING STRIKE BY PARLIAMENTARY STAFFERS.

Written by on March 23, 2021

The Rivers State House of Assembly is under lock and key as Parliamentary Staff, PASAN, working at the Assembly this morning embarked on an indefinite strike and picketing of the complex.

As early as 6:30am today, the PASAN members gathered at the entrance of the complex and locked it following a directive of the national leadership of the Association.

The unionists ordered the workers to put the Assembly under lock and key as they drive home their demands for legislative autonomy.

Speaking with our correspondent, IWOR ROMGBO, State Chairperson of PASAN, COMFORT OTUENE described the resolve of the Executive arm of government to deny legislators their autonomy as unconstitutional and legislative slavery.

Also speaking at the picketing exercise, Nigeria Labour Congress, the NLC State Chairperson, BEATRICE ITUBO expressed solidarity with PASAN in their quest for legislative autonomy.
