MINISTER OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT CHRIS NGIGE TALKS TOUGH, INSISTS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WILL IMPLEMENT ‘NO WORK, NO PAY’ IF DOCTORS REFUSE TO RESUME WORK

Written by on April 3, 2021

The Federal Government through the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, says it will implement the ‘no work, no pay’ on the striking National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) if they refuse to resume work.

NGIGE who issued the warning on Friday during an interview, said by Tuesday the association will be invited and if they become disobedient, Labour Laws as ‘no work, no pay’ will be invoked.

Speaking further, the Minister also noted that the current hazard allowance of ₦5,000 for doctors was fixed in 1992, noting that it was fair and just.

The Minister explained that the Federal Government would review the amount in five weeks’ time, although he did not disclose the proposed figure.

MEANWHILE,

While reacting to the backlash that welcomed the President’s trip to London on Thursday, CHRIS NGIGE said President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has the right to travel abroad for medical consultation.

NGIGE said the President has been visiting his doctor in London for a second opinion for over 40 years and cannot stop because he is now a President, as he has every right to visit.

Recall that Nigerians had expressed mixed feelings over President BUHARI’S trip to London for medical check-up, especially with the growing insecurity in the country and the nationwide strike embarked upon by members of the National Association of Resident Doctors.
