Some security personnel in Rivers State Government schools have cried out over non-payment of salary for eight months.
Two of the security personnel in a secondary school in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, who pleaded anonymity, said life had been difficult for him and his family of five because of the stalled salary.
The security personnel told our correspondent in a telephone interview that the school principal told them that they had not received the monthly imprest from the State Ministry of Education.
The security guards said the monthly imprest is used to run the schools and pay the security personnel and running the daily activities of the school.
The security personnel pleaded with Governor NYEWOM WIKE to come to their aid because life had been difficult for them following the stalled slary.
Our news desk gathered that the Rivers State Government had not paid the imprest for 1st and 2nd terms which is meant for running of the school including payment of security personnel, buying of writing materials, clearing of grasses amongst others.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Education in Rivers State, Professor KANIYE EBEKU, did not respond enquiries by our correspondent.
