COMMISSIONER OF POLICE IN RIVETS STATE ASSURES ON NEUTRALITY AND PROFESSIONALISM OF SECURITY AGENCIES DURING AND AFTER APRIL 17 LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION.

The Commissioner of Police in Rivets State, CP EBOKA FRIDAY has assured on the neutrality and professionalism of the command and other security agencies during and after the April 17 local government election.

CP EBOKA gave the assurance in Port Harcourt during a stakeholders meeting with security agencies and candidates of political parties ahead of the poll.

Correspondent AYO ODUNGWERU reports that CP Eboka enjoined candidates to see themselves as brothers and sisters and encourage efforts geared towards violence free and credible elections.

The Rivers Police Boss warned that anybody found with weapons would be arrested and dealt with in accordance to the law and maintained that restrictions of movement would be strictly enforced.


Meanwhile, the Chairman of Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, Justice GEORGE OMERIJI emphasised the commission’s resolve for a fair, free transparent and credible elections.

Justice OMERIJI was represented by another official of the commission, Doctor IYENEOMIE TAMUNOBERETON-AI.

Our correspondent reports that the candidates of the  political parties who spoke at the meeting expressed fear while others called for a level playing ground by RSIEC and the security agencies.

Our correspondent reports the representative of Director of State Security, said the intelligence estimates indicates the election would be peaceful and urged the candidates to ensure peaceful elections.
