The IGP Tactical Squad based at Borokiri Police Station in Port Harcourt, is facing allegations of extortion of seven hundred thousand naira from the family of one THANKGOD ‘JAJA’ OKERE.
The family said JAJA was detained on a false accusation of being a kidnapper after he was arrested on the 25th of February by the police unit at the burial of an uncle in Umuechem, Etche Local Government Area.
However, JAJA, who was released last night, said the Investigating Police Officer, BELLO YUSUF, told him to accept that he was a cultist after he rejected the charges of kidnapping and armed robbery.
JAJA also alleged that the operatives of the IGP Tactical Squad tortured him while he was detained at their Borokiri Police Station base.
Our correspondent, GEORGE UKAEGBU reports that the Tactical team released JAJA after the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, FRIDAY EBOKA, ordered that he be charged to court or be released, if there was no evidence against him.
