RIVERS STATE MINISTRY OF WATER RESOURCES AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT REVEALS THAT OVER 2-POINT-2 BILLION PEOPLE WORLDWIDE LACK POTABLE WATER, AS ACTIVITIES TO MARK WORLD WATER DAY TAKES CENTRE STAGE

The Rivers State Ministry of Water Resources and Rural Development has revealed over 2-point-2 billion people worldwide do not have potable water, as the activities to mark World Water Day takes centre stage.

The Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, TAMUNOSISI GOGO-JAJA disclosed this in an interview with Correspondent CHINWENDU NWANI.

GOGO-JAJA described water as the most precious resource on earth, but is poorly managed.

GOGO-JAJA also said the ministry was working hard by doing everything possible to flush out quacks in the sector.

The commissioner further revealed that the ministry is already working on samples collected from water producers and would soon release the names that passed the standard.

GOGO-JAJA also equally called on international oil companies and business entities in the state to ensure availability of potable water at their business environments.

Our correspondent reports that World Water Day is celebrated 22 of March yearly, with this year’s theme as ‘Valuing Water’.
