PRESIDENT OF RIVERS STATE ETHNIC YOUTH LEADERS COALITION ACCUSES GOVERNOR NYESOM WIKE OF THREATENING TO KILL HIM AND OTHER LEADERS OVER PROTEST AGAINST JULIUS BERGER NIGERIA PLC.

Written by on March 31, 2021

The President of the Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition, LEGBORSI YAMAABANA, has accused Governor NYESOM WIKE of threatening to kill him and other youth leaders over a disrupted protest.

YAMAABANA and other youth leaders had threatened to shut down the operations of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC over alleged breach of local content and corporate social responsibility requirements to the host communities.

The Ogoni-born youth leader alleged that Governor WIKE made the threat at the Government House in Port Harcourt in the presence of the Commissioner of Police and the Director of the DSS in the State.

LEGBORSI YAMAABANA also alleged that 8 members of the youth bodies were seized by unidentified men during their march at Port Harcourt during the protest.

However, the Rivers State Government had accused the youth leaders of planning to breach the peace in the State.

In a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, PAULINUS NSIRIM, said the groups led by PRINCE GOMENE NAMENE and LEGBORSI YAMAABANA were sponsored by so-called enemies of the state.

NSIRIM said intelligence reports indicated that the youth leaders were hired to frustrate the ongoing construction of five Flyovers at Rumuola, GRA Junction, Orochiri-Worukwo, Oroabali and Nkpolu-Oroworukwo.
