2019 PDP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE CONDEMNS ATTACK ON BENUE STATE GOVERNOR LAST SATURDAY.

The 2019 Presidential Candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, ATIKU ABUBAKAR, has condemned the attack on Benue State Governor SAMUEL ORTOM, describing it as worrisome.

In a series of posts on his Twitter page, ATIKU called for a thorough investigation into the matter and restated the need for a rejig of the nation’s security architecture and constitution.

The former presidential candidate advocated a tweaking of the constitution to empower the states to control their internal security.

Recall that former Governors of Benue, GEORGE AKUME and GABRIEL SUSWAM,  have suffered similar attacks in the past.

In the meantime, 2019 PDP Vice Presidential Candidate, PETER OBI, has slammed the attack on ORTOM on Makurdi-Gboko Road last Saturday. In a post on Twitter, OBI said the attack further exposed the country’s dangerous security situation, and an urgent need to end the drift into a failed nation status by reviewing the security architecture.

OBI wondered that if Governors ORTOM and BABAGANA ZULUM, as leaders of subnational entities, could be attacked at will, what the situation of ordinary citizens.

In the meantime, the All Progressives Congress, APC, have expressed confidence in the ability of the nation’s security services to arrest the attackers of Governor ORTOM.

In a statement, the APC said it was confident that the security forces would do everything to unravel the criminals behind the attack on the convoy of ORTOM.
